The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and the Cobleskill Community Library today announced the opening of a free e-filing assistance site. At this site, located at 110 Union Street, Cobleskill, individuals and families earning $62,000 or less will be able to e-file both their federal and state returns at no charge. The site will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays through April 14. Please call 518-234-7897 to schedule an appointment. The Tax Department, in cooperation with community partners throughout New York State, supports 85 free tax return filing assistance sites. User-friendly software walks the taxpayer through the tax filing process, reducing errors and ensuring that all appropriate credits are claimed. Each site is staffed by Tax Department volunteers who are on hand to help taxpayers navigate the software and set up an Online Services account. “We’re here to support the community,” Cobleskill Community Library Director Devon Hedges, “and I encourage all those who are eligible to take advantage of this free community service.” “Thanks to this initiative, thousands of taxpayers in our area can electronically prepare and file their personal income tax returns in a safe, secure, and confidential environment,” added Michelle Duchowny, Regional Outreach and Constituent Services Specialist for the Tax Department. “This is a great option that can save filers hundreds of dollars that they might otherwise spend on a paid preparer. And while they’re saving money and meeting their filing obligations, they’ll also learn about valuable tax credits – receiving the refund they deserve.” For more information
